Identity in Christ and Understanding Who You Are
The question of “Who am I?” is something most of us grapple with at different stages of life. In a world that often defines us by our achievements, our relationships, or the roles we play, it’s easy to lose sight of our true identity. But Linda reminds us in her teaching that the answer to this question isn’t found in external circumstances or societal labels—it’s rooted in our relationship with Christ.
Understanding our identity in Christ is one of the most powerful revelations a person can experience. It’s a life-changing truth that shapes the way we see ourselves, others, and the world around us. When we know who we are in Christ, we no longer have to measure our worth by the fleeting standards of the world. Instead, we stand firm on the unshakable foundation of God’s love for us.
The Bible says in 1 John 4:19, “We love Him because He first loved us.” This love is not based on our performance or how well we meet expectations—it’s unconditional. God’s love is a gift that was freely given, and it defines who we are, not our actions or what others say about us. Through Christ, we have been adopted into God’s family and are heirs to His promises.
Knowing our identity in Christ means understanding that we are loved, chosen, and valued. It means recognizing that we are not defined by our past mistakes, our failures, or even our successes. We are who God says we are—sons and daughters of the Most High, righteous in His sight, and blessed with every spiritual blessing in Christ.
This understanding is for everyone, regardless of age, background, or life experience. Embracing your identity in Christ is a transformative process that empowers you to live confidently and boldly, knowing that your value is secure in God’s love and grace.
Life, Good, Death, and Evil – Deuteronomy 30
In Deuteronomy 30:15, God presents a powerful choice to His people: “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil.” This scripture, though written thousands of years ago, is incredibly relevant today as it speaks to the choices we face daily in our lives. In her teaching, Linda highlights how this passage invites us to consider the weight of our decisions and the profound impact they have on our lives and futures.
Life and good represent the blessings and fulfilment that come from walking in God’s ways—living in alignment with His Word, embracing His love, and making choices that honour Him. These choices lead to a life of peace, joy, and purpose, fulfilling God’s promise to bless us in the land we go to possess. When we embrace our identity in Christ, we are empowered to choose life, for it is through Christ that we can experience true goodness and the abundant life He offers.
On the other hand, death and evil aren’t just physical death or external calamities—they refer to the consequences of living apart from God. These choices lead to spiritual emptiness, confusion, and disconnection from the abundant life that God desires for us. In essence, death and evil are the result of rejecting God’s best for our lives and choosing paths that distance us from His truth. In understanding our identity in Christ, we can see clearly how our choices are shaped by His love and the life He offers, helping us to avoid the path that leads to death.
The beauty of this scripture is that God doesn’t impose a path upon us—He gives us the freedom to choose.
Old vs. New Covenant
The difference between the Old and New Covenants profoundly shapes how we relate to God. In the Old Covenant, maintaining a relationship with God required strict adherence to laws, commandments, and rituals. While this path promised blessings and favour, it couldn’t fully provide the righteousness God desired.
The New Covenant, established through Jesus Christ, transforms this dynamic. It is not based on human efforts to follow the law but on faith in Jesus’ finished work on the cross. Through His sacrifice, we receive righteousness, forgiveness, and new life as a gift of grace.
Unlike the Old Covenant’s external rules, the New Covenant brings inner transformation through the Holy Spirit. It’s about relationships, not religion—a life filled with God’s love, peace, and purpose. No longer striving to earn righteousness, we are made righteous in Christ and empowered to live in God’s will through His grace.
The New Covenant fulfils the Old, offering direct access to God and blessings rooted in Jesus’ work, not our own performance. It’s a covenant of grace and love, freeing us to live confidently in God’s blessings and purpose.
The Power of Choice
One of the most profound aspects of our spiritual journey is the power of choice. In the teaching, Linda emphasizes that we have the ability to choose between life and death, good and evil. This power is given to us by God, and it is central to how we live out our identity in Christ.
In the New Covenant, our choices are not about adhering to a set of rules but about choosing to live in the freedom that Christ offers. By understanding who we are in Him, we can make choices that align with His will, leading to life, peace, and blessings.
Just as God gave His people the choice between life and death in Deuteronomy, we too are called to make choices that reflect our new identity in Christ and the grace He has bestowed upon us. Each decision is an opportunity to walk in the fullness of God’s love and purpose for our lives.
Walking in Faith and God’s Blessings
Walking in faith is at the heart of living out our identity in Christ. It is through faith that we embrace the grace of God and trust in His promises, knowing that His blessings are not dependent on our perfection, but on His love for us. Linda highlights this vital truth: by faith, we accept the finished work of Jesus Christ and the righteousness He has provided for us.
When we walk in faith, we are not walking alone. We are empowered by the Holy Spirit to live according to God’s will, which leads to abundant blessings. God’s desire is to bless us in every area of our lives—spiritually, emotionally, and even materially. As we align our hearts with Him, we begin to see the fruit of His blessings manifest in our lives.
Walking in faith means trusting that God is good and that He has a plan for us. It’s not always about what we can see or feel in the moment, but about believing in God’s promises and standing firm on His Word.
As we walk in faith, we are reminded that we are already blessed in Christ—His blessings are not something we have to earn, but something we receive through faith.

- 00:49 – Good morning, people. I’m so excited to share the Word of God. It’s just bubbling inside of me, but you know, I don’t know if it’s the Lord or if it’s because I’m now 66. It’s just like I don’t care so much about people’s opinions anymore.
- 01:06 – So you know, my identity is in Christ. I know I’m loved by Him, and I want to share that with you. I want you to also understand who you are. We are all so different, but I’m so excited. Let me dive into it.
- 01:22 – Deuteronomy, just the next verse. Sometimes I read and read and I don’t feel there’s anything that the Lord speaks through this, but then suddenly, today, it was just the next verse. So I’m going to read it to you in Deuteronomy 30 from verse 15.
- 01:40 – “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil.” In that I command you today to love The Lord your God, to walk in His ways and keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments. That you may live and multiply.
- 01:56 – And that the Lord your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess. Isn’t that beautiful? But I’m still thinking of the old covenant. New Covenant. I’m going to make a comparison.
- 02:07 – It says: you can choose. We all have to choose. Look at what we can choose between. We can choose between life and good. The Afrikaans say “Geluk,” it’s almost like happiness. You can choose, or you can choose death and evil.
- 02:27 – Now, how do you choose it? In the old covenant, it says that you love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments and His statutes. But for me, in the new covenant, I think of 1 John 4, where it says: He loved us first.
- 02:45 – Because He loved us, we can love Him. This has been such a big thing in my life, to know that I am unconditionally loved.
- 00:02:55 – And so are you, not because of what you’ve done, not because of what you are doing, not because of what you are going to do. God loves you. He created you, He sent His Son to die for you, to take your sin upon Himself, to take your sickness upon Himself.
- 00:03:15 – You know, and, I don’t know if it’s easy for you to love people who don’t love you, it’s a bit more difficult, but it is easy to love people if you know they love you. And I know God loves me, just the way I am.
- 00:03:59 – So it comes naturally to love Him, because I know He’s not a hard taskmaster. He’s not there with a stick, waiting for me to mess up so that He can hit me. You know, we love our children, but He is the most loving Father that ever existed.
- 00:04:22 – Then it says: He gives His commandments, statutes, and judgment so that you may live and multiply. So what are His commandments and statutes? What is in the new covenant, that we should keep?
- 00:04:36 – And throughout the new covenant, we see it is just by faith. Accept what Jesus has done for me, what He has done on that cross, what grace, that you are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. 1 Corinthians 5:21 says, “If you accept Jesus as your Lord, you are the righteousness of God. You are a righteous tree already.”
- 00:05:02 – Think of an apple tree. It’s not hard for an apple tree to bear apples. An apple tree doesn’t try to bear fruit. It’s not like, “Okay, I must do this, I must try to be more kind, I must try to be more patient.” No, you are that already in your spirit. It’s just your mind that needs to be renewed and to know who you are.
- 00:05:24 – So we can walk in His statutes. I think walking in His ways in the new covenant is just believing what Jesus has done for you. And what is the result? It says, “The Lord your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess.”
- 00:05:44 – So, there is blessings. You know, I think one thing, Jesus became poor so that we can become rich. This is the word of God. God’s will is good. There is persecution, we go through times that are not so good, but God’s will is to bless us. He wants to bless us. That is His will.
- 00:06:06 – In the land which you go to possess, so, I want to leave this with you. In whatever country you live, God wants to prosper you there, to be a blessing, to take more ground for Him, just blossom, where you are planted like this beautiful flower.
- 00:06:26 – Have a wonderful day and thank you for watching.
